How much should I offer on this 2001 740iL? Needs work done.
The car has 130,000 miles, is automatic, black, and needs the timing guides and chains done. Located in Santa Barbara, California. It's listed for $1200, was wondering if I should offer even near that amount. Thanks!

$900,$1000,$1200 kind of all the same at that point. You'll be spending thousands if you want get it into decent condition (E38 owner). I'd be most interested in paint and interior condition. Mechanically it sounds like every other E38.

If you are able to do your own mechanical work then it could be a fair deal if it is just the timing chain and guides. Ask him what happened to make him say it needs timing work, if the chain broke just walk away.
