I don't mean for this to be a downer, but my best friend since we were 4 years old passed away last month and the Shake Shack was his favorite place to go. He and I took road trips from time to time. When he was driving, it was his beautiful C5 Corvette. When I was driving it was my amazing 2003 540i with M-tech package. I thought my BMW was pretty amazing until I drove his C5. Actually, both great cars for different purposes but that C5 was sure fun.
When my friend was getting too sick to drive, I'd fly down and drive him to the Shake Shack for lunch. His doctors had him this really strict diet but I told them this was a special treat for my friend and they said it was okay. I'd take him in his C5 down to the Shake Shack and have a burger and a shack, look at the amazing view, and talk about stories of all the crazy things we did together over 60+ years as friends. We must have made the Shake Shack trip 10 times until he couldn't do it anymore. I just wish I had taken a photo of him and his C5 in front of the Shake Shack. I do have the attached photo of my friend. I always teased him that he like the Shake Shack because it was yellow like his car. Anyway, just for kicks, here is my dear life-long friend with his pride and joy. RIP good friend. |

My favorite route in San Diego on a quiet weekend morning is to start at Otay Lakes Road in Chula Vista, then jump on CA-94 east out to Buckman Springs Road and head North to I-8 north. Then exit I-8 at Sunrise Highway (S1) a take the twisties through Laguna mountain and then transition to CA-79 out to Julian and Santa Ysabel and grab a Julian apple pie. After the delicious pie, head south on CA-78 through Ramona and transition to CA-67 back to San Diego.
It is a great route with lots of elevation changes and turns, just keep your fingers crossed that there are a minimal amount of Prius and Minivan drivers up that early. MB |

Oh and I agree on the color choice! He must've dug the Shake Shack because of that. |
