iPad Air 10.9”

Getting ready to purchase. Any reason to choose an alternative?

Uses:

Sitting around the house BS-ing on the internet in my favorite chair with my drink in hand
Mounting in truck for GPS in off-grid situations (hence cellular option despite no intention of using data - GPS only available with LTE)
Mount behind headrest in family mobile for daughter on long trips

I choose 256gb to have space for downloading big maps (Gaia) as well as movies and the like for the family.

Not sure I see a use case for the Pro. Thoughts?

Been considering the same, but I always back out on hitting buy because my phone serves me well enough.

I’ve got CarPlay setup in the 80 Series Land Cruiser which pushes Gaia over well enough from my phone. But the physical position on the double din I put in is far from ergonomic. One of my big pushes for something standalone.

Also, as much as I hate to admit it, I do spend a decent amount of time on my phone at home. The iPad makes that a more enjoyable experience.

Maybe wait a week or two. New iPads are coming in April which typically means a price drop if you opt for the older gen.

I have the 11” iPad Pro cellular. I don’t buy wifi only anymore because of the reasons you listed. It just works more seamlessly and you don’t have to trust crappy 3rd party wifi. I think the Air is just fine for what your use case is. I chose pro because it adds 5G and the new M1 chip which is very snappy. I had the old iPad Pro 11” with A12x and it was fine….the air has the A14 so is a middle ground.
