No more Learjets

Bombardier is ending Learjet production. I'm not sure why that surprises me, but it does. Guess I'll be stuck buying a used one when I hit the lottery.

End of an era. Is another company filling the gap for business and luxury travel that remains after Lear exits the market?

Is this a windfall for Citation?

Aren't most learjets near ancient designs at this point? The Lear 55 came out in like 81?

I think that companies like Gulfstream just beat them head over heels... also if anyone is familiar with aviation manufacturing... it's almost always a losing proposition.

Lear jets are sooooooo 1970's pedestrian in the 21st century. I can in all seriousness go test-fly a Citation today at their dealership only 7 miles from my house if I wanted to buy one. For that matter, Trump's personal 757 is sitting only 6 miles away for about a year now, apparently having an engine overhaul. There was also some sheik's personal 747 sitting over there for years sans an engine or two, which would be my choice for a personal jet since the Concorde's air worthiness certificates were terminated.....

I thought Honda had joined the private jet market but I don't recall them ever hitting the market. Now there would be an interesting addition to BAT ( bring a trailer )

I have a buddy with the HondaJet and it's a short hauler. A sky-car for affluent families. I'd go Citation family all the way.

I think HondaJet has been selling for a while now. They already got FAA certification. They even have trainer/delivery pilot to show you around and the Honda crew gather for delivery. Japanese executives are even flying over to take possession of their American made HondaJet.

Unfortunately none of my lotto number match so far or I'll be looking of getting into one.

Bombardier still makes the Challenger and Global family of aircraft.

There are also Gulfstream, Cessna, Embraer, Dassault, Boeing, and Airbus jets still being built. Honda might still build aircraft; I'm not sure. Then there is the huge market for used aircraft.

The Learjet was just one brand owned by Bombardier. There are plenty of other manufacturers out there.

Yup - they're around. One of my good friends who lives down the road a bit is one of the primary sales reps for the Honda jet here in the USA. He speaks very highly of it.

Indeed! I once travelled from here to London on a Gulfstream... quite a trip!

Would be a turboprop for me. TBM 940 and Piper M600 have auto land, which would get my wife down if I keel over. I wanna drive it. But I don't want to kill her off if I croak.
