I am a fan. I think some of the changes have been for the better. Today was a very cool pre race and now waiting for track drying. This will be a good race at least last 10 laps for sure.

I just started watching NASCAR during the COVID lockdown. It's really fun to watch actually. Cars going nearly 200 mph within inches of each other, the little bumps accidental or otherwise, the pitstops and the consistency required. So far i've seen about 5 races. Daytona up next. My father used to watch it when i was a kid as a diehard Ford fan.
I'm quite a newbie but that's fine. I just learned about how the whole system works with weekly races and then the playoffs. I also did a bit of historical research and was surprised to discover that this whole sport came out of bootleggers racing each other for fun during the prohibition era. |

I used to watch a lot as a kid, that was during Nascar's golden age. In the last 00s all those drivers started to retire, the recession hit, and the sport just had zero appeal to millennials who were coming of age at that time.
I'll always look back the the memories fondly, but I have no interest in watching Nascar today. Racing in general, even F1 which seems to be wildly popular, is boring for spectators. Watching the same car go in circles for hours is not entertaining.

I enjoy watching IROC...I mean NASCAR when they actually do the two road courses on their schedule. At least that's when I was slightly interested in NASCAR years ago. Not sure if they still do road courses. I would laugh when Robby Gordon would show up the field as to racing can also mean turning right.
My distaste for NASCAR management grew when they took over the AMA motorcycle racing series. They thought they could do the same dumb crap that happens in NASCAR with motorcycle racing. Rolling starts? Give me a break. So glad AMA got rescued from those idiots by the likes of Wayne Rainey. |
