NBA plans to allow players to promote social justice on their jerseys

I just read this headline this morning.

NBA plans to allow players to promote social justice on their jerseys

I'm sure some think this is a great idea. I don't. I totally believe in personal expression, but when in a team uniform, a player is part of a team. I think players should save their important messages to the world for when they are representing themselves while not in the team uniform. Even if I completely agree with the message, I'm not in favor of using a team platform to express it.

Unfortunately your opinion and also mine on this subject no longer matters. We will see more and more of people’s believes and politics making their way into sports and for those that resist this will be shammed into doing it.

This is our new world.

You don't have to openly resist and be shamed by the cancel culture
Those who disagree, like myself who see sports as an escape from everyday crap, will simply vote with our wallets
If the covid-19 has taught me anything, it's that I truly don't miss sports all that much

I agree. I was more talking about other teams, players and owners. That will be pressured to follow.

I don’t care for sports at all. Just football because I get OT when there are home games. Not sure how this year will play out yet

^^This....

is exactly what I was thinking. I've been moving away from pro sports for the last couple years and not missing it at all. Now, I'm not missing it at all. There are so many other things to do with my time. I'm beginning to adopt my lovely wife's attitude about sports; "Somebody wins and somebody loses". If I want to see some sports action, I'll go watch a high school game.

You don't watch that crap when it's televised do you?
During the 70's and 80's and 90's it was a different game, and I don't remember much of a political venue playing out. Used to have Season tickets back then for a few years.
Haven't watched since Iverson was announced to be the "answer"
What a joke

Fantastic, not like I needed another reason to not watch this garbage they call basketball now. Between watching Harden travel every time he touches the ball, to 200+ three pointers a game who gives a shit.

I got to witness the early mid 80s thru the late 90s basketball, nothing will ever top that for me.

Rather have this than NFL pov, but all a bit token and meaningless at the end of the day.

Just so the players dont get into trouble for looking like they are not supporting it.

Will they continue to wear their signature "pants around their knees" to maintain their street cred?
Here's Lebron as an example

It’s going to be interesting to see what the NBA ratings are going to look like. Personally, I lost interest in the NBA a few years ago.

This is just so a bunch of players can do a bunch of virtue signalling so they dont lose money from sponsors.

Corona is a bigger issue, Florida is 2nd place with 270% increase in cases in last 2 weeks!!

I miss when sports was an escape from the day-to-day world. It used to unite all of us regardless of race or political beliefs.

I find it silly that multimillionaires are virtue signaling/lecturing us on what to believe and how to live our lives. You guys literally get paid unimaginable money to dribble a ball; this is the only country in the world you'd be able to do that. Save me the sob story.

If the NBA gets political once it restarts I'm just not gonna watch. This season shouldn't even count due to how shortened it will be. Home court advantage will be eliminated. The winner should have an asterisk.

At least we have college football, assuming it happens this season. NCAAF is all about the team, pride, and tradition. The egos are smaller and the focus is on winning rather than self promotion.

My lousy Knicks aren’t in this Orlando bubble so I won’t be watching. Heck, even if the Knicks were in it I still wouldn’t watch.

I thought I read somewhere in the forums that the conferences were getting involved in all of this as well.

That's a great idea!
Wearing jerseys that were produced in an overseas sweatshop to promote "social justice" isn't hypocritical at all.
Or does that not apply because it doesn't fit the narrative?

Well done NBA. I bet many people genuinely do not realise the injustice happening in the world. maybe their preferred news outlet simply does not report it.

This should create more awareness and I will be taking out a subscription to support this.

It's going to be like, super hard for me to ignore letters on the back of the jersey, so I can watch some NBA.

Sorry wait, I'll be back, I need to go yell at the kids to get off my lawn and tell that cloud to move along.
