The Tesla model S is so expensive and way out of realm for most people. I wouldn't even consider it in my lifetime. However, model 3 brought long range electric car to the masses. It's still expensive but at least it gives an average person or a poor person like me a glimmer of hope.

Yes it is more expensive, however the question was importance, to which I would say the Model S is more important regarding history, as it was the first EV to change the notion of what an EV can be. They didn't have to be slow, boring and nerdy/ugly, the Model S proved they could be stylish, cool, handle pretty well, have a 200 mile + range, new tech and above all else, fast. The Model 3 wouldn't have happened without the start of the S and all of its advancements. The 3 may be the people's electric car, but when it comes to history/importance, I'd say the Model S takes it over the 3.

Wouldn't something that makes a profound impact on the masses be more significant than one that only benefits a select few?

Take a 1908 Ford Model T vs. 1908 Mercedes-Simplex for example.
