Ceramic Coating or PPF - 2020 M5 Lease
Hey guys. Happy Holidays and New Year!
I am hoping everyone can give me their opinion so I can make an informed decision... I am taking delivery of my 2020 BMW M5 in BSM. It arrived in port yesterday and I'll probably get to pick it up week of Jan 6th after it gets some CF pieces installed at the port. I know I am not going to keep my car after the lease, but I want to protect my car, keep it looking great and minimize cleaning and maintenance. I am located in NY and it's always difficult with bad weather and terrible roads. I was considering 3 different options: 1. Full PPF 2. PPF Front and rear bumpers and Ceramic Coat the rest of the car 3. Ceramic Coat the entire car Pricing I got from Phenominal Vinyl in Long Island for the 3 Options: 1. $5,500 2. $2,500 3. $1,500 This is my build: 2020 BMW M5 Black Sapphire Metallic Full Black Merino Leather Executive Package Driving Assistance Plus Package Bowers & Wilkins Sound System Carbon Fiber Kidney Grills Carbon Fiber Side Grills Carbon Fiber Pro Rear Spoiler Planned Mod List: IND Painted Front Reflector Delete IND Painted Rear Reflector Delete GlossBlack Exhaust Tip change Gloss Black M5 Trunk Logo Swap Mode Carbon Carbon Fiber Trophy Rear Diffuser Window Tint (thinking 30%)

I was in the same boat as you. I was totally going to go with #2 on your list, but just kept thinking about how pissed I was going to be when I got my first door ding for scratch a rear fender. I ended up going with full PPF and ceramic on top of it. I did this for the ease of washing, but mostly for peace of mind. I work/park at a busy shopping mall, and have 2 small kids with bikes right next to my car in the garage. At the end of the day, the extra money will make me a nicer dad Lol

It's a lease so I wouldn't put that type of money into a car. That said a black car is hard to keep clean ceramic would help tremendously. I ceramic coated my entire car and ppf'd the front end and rocker panels, that would be the way to go.
XPEL PPF, paint correction and CQuartz Finest Reserve https://f90.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1615408

If you don't like rock chips, then PPF on the front end of the vehicle is an absolute must-have.
I have made the mistake of getting a new car ceramic coated without PPF, and then in the first month a big wad of dried mud flew off a truck hauling a tractor and hit my hood. The truck wasn't even in my lane, I was passing it. The dried mud was like a rock, and took a huge chunk of paint with it. PPF would have saved the day. As for the rest of the car, PPF need will vary depending on your location and circumstances. I live in a place where parking spaces are large, and everyone seems to be mindful about opening doors. My Audi has not had 1 single door ding in 6 years of ownership. I don't even think about where I park. But in a big city, where parking garages have tiny spaces and people are not always so nice, full PPF might be a lifesaver. I will tell you one thing for certain..... The time to get PPF is immediately when you take ownership of the car. If you chip the paint before getting film, then you will either have to live with the flaws in the paint, or you'll have to repaint the car and then not drive the car for many weeks while the paint cures. You can't wrap a fresh paintjob because new paint will outgas for weeks until fully cured. |

On a car that's leased, do most dealers mind if you turn the car in at lease end with the film on?

Can't imagine they would care or even notice IMO. I'll let you know when my lease is up in about a year and a half.

Full PPF gets my vote. I have been really pleased with the look and protection. Also like how if it gets dimpled from a rock it will heal itself if you apply heat with hair dryer. Ceramic coated the wheels and rotors which helps with cleaning off dust.

First, sweet car! Since it's a lease you don't really have to do anything. But assuming you like to keep it looking nice, I would do one of your choices. I personally prefer ceramic coating, very slick and makes cleaning easier. I have seen most people who use ppf put ceramic on top of it. Ppf would add some protection against small rocks. Both are fairly pricey. Any is worth it if you want to preserve the looks
