Audi S6 V10 Experience?
Have an opportunity to pick up a good condition S6 from a co-worker. Test drove the car and it all seems to be in order, except there is a large oil leak coming from the drivers side of the engine. Can't determine exactly from where.
It's a long shot, but wanted to check with you all car enthusiast if anyone has any experience with the S6 V10 engine and how problematic they are? And if their oil leaks are easily solved for a backyard mechanic with a garage and proper tools? Thanks in advance.

I don’t consider a large oil leak on a V10 engine good condition. I would walk.

Get a good mechanic to look at it if the price is right, but I'd walk away unless I knew for certain it was an easy fix and nothing else mechanical was wrong.
I just stepped into an S6 myself, but with the 4.0T engine which should be quite reliable. The transmission....to be determined. |

Good job. Unless he was willing to take a substantial hit because of the oil leaking I'd pass too.

Based on the limited info from this thread it sounds like the vehicle could be been grounded/bottomed severely. It can happen at high speed, on vehicles with little ground clearance.

Great. There goes the 'what big bills came up today' thread I was hoping for to make my own little money pit look like a bargain.... But seriously, any time somebody neglects a repair like that they also likely commit every other automotive maintenance sin; probably either diesel in the gas tank or radiator fluid in the windshield washer bottle, a jump wire (paperclip) in a fuse box, and somewhere there is a zip tie holding something essential together.

Isn’t that pretty much the same engine as whats in a Gallardo or R8. Maybe look into those websites for sources of oil leaks. It would be costly to fix unless you are a DIY type.

since its large, it can be bad connector, oil pan leaks, timing cover seal, valve cover gaskets etc.. but is it idles perfectly, is there any burnt oil smell, hows the higher rpms feel.. a lot of things like this needs to be checked.. without a rush its still a special car after checking whats wrong.. but somehow if he s trying to sell the car in this condition but he says he doesnt know whats wrong.. that doesnt sound that much truth to me..

But you are redeemed on the rest. And it's not half of the time in the shop. It's about 30%. Totally worth it.

We really need more information on this. I can ask him about if we can get more detail from the OP.

One of the best M6 videos ever made. RPI full exhaust. EPIC!

better off just buying an e60 and getting it bulletproofed if you want a v10.

Remember, you only have to take off the entire front end of the car to get at the engine in those Audi’s.
Hanging a huge v10 in front of the axle was a crazy “me too” moment. |

Not true, only the case for Audi's with less cylinders, in v10s, you need to remove the engine to do anything to the car))
