New member - PPF issue

Hey everyone,
I’m a new member and had my 2019 M5C for about a month now and absolutely loving it. I decided to get some ceramic coating and PPF installed on it at a local shop. I picked it up today and was extremely disappointed to find that they told me the film wasn’t “long enough” (60 inches) to reach the corner edges of the hood near the windshield. On each side of the hood closest to the windshield there’s a cut where they added more PPF and it looks absolutely terrible. I was shocked where they acted like that’s normal. I rejected it immediately. Has anyone else had this issue? It seems a little lazy and I am forcing them to redo it right.

Other than that, I love it!

Have them do it again! That's inexcusable as most of the pieces are pre-cut and utilize factory dimensions.

I have full PPF and it's wrapped around the edges all around.

I was told the same thing. The hood is larger than a single sheet. The only difference is that on mine it is impossible to see where the two sheets meet. I'm happy with the work that was done. Give your shop a chance to make it right.

I’ve had PPF on numerous cars from the same installer for years using mostly Xpel or Suntek films and have not had this issue. Do you know what film was used? Perhaps that particular brand of film does have sizing limitations, but even if it did, any reputable installer would’ve disclosed this limitation to you before installing to make sure you’re ok with it, or at least offered other alternative films that would’ve adequately covered the hood seamlessly. Unacceptable. To be honest, this installer sounds like a hack for them to just proceed with a compromised application and assume you’d be ok with such a half-assed job. Hopefully they can make it right.

Definitely have them redo that.

It doesnt even look like its been wrapped around the edge towards the windshield.
The "tuck" if we can call it that, on the hood/fender seem looks sloppy as well.

I'm very sorry to say that any shop that would try to pass off that level of work to a customer is not a shop I would want doing anything to my car.

Obviously you will need to give them a chance to make it right but you may have to accept that they are simply not properly qualified.

Thanks everyone for your responses. This is supposedly the best shop in Nashville and they have done one of my other cars previously and most of the high end cars in town so I thought I made a good choice. Apparently I was completely wrong on this and I need to let them fix it but I probably won’t be back. The owner is a super guy and I trust that he will make it right. I received it dirty as well with sticky stuff from the paper mat stuck to the drivers side carpet. I could go on and on but it’s all about the customer experience and they completely missed the mark on this.

That's horrible, I have suntek ultra ppf and it is precut so on the corner it doesn't wrap 100% but my installer wrap edge wherever he can.

What you have is another story though, they need to redo the whole hood.

hold them accountable, i'm sure they charged a pretty penny for it. That's the problem with all of these shops that do all kinds of work, people go in, and leave unsatisfied and don't do anything about it. Meanwhile the business just keeps fucking people. If they refuse to fix it, or want to charge you more money, i'd leave a nice review for them online..

In no way is what i see in that picture accaptable.

Sorry to hear about your experience. That type of shoddy work is unacceptable. I would absolutely make them redo it. I recently had my car done with Xpel and there were no issues and edges were tucked.

I get to be without it all day tomorrow while they try make it right. I’m fine to give them a shot. So far their willingness to do so is encouraging. If they fix it, great. I still might never go back though. If they don’t make it perfect, I will make sure everyone with high end cars (I know a ton) knows about this shop. I haven’t even shown you guys all the crap that was stuck to the carpet! Awful.

Thanks again everyone.

Not to call anyone out but was this done by Area 44? Whoever it was have them re-do it. Did you have the entire car done? If so, check it ALL out carefully. That is not a good sign. No creases should be visible.

Had same issue...

Mate, had same issue but installer told me as soon as they were done. he said the hood seemed larger than the sheet. They had to get a longer one to cover it properly, until then he over stretched it to keep it protected.
Once he got the new sheet it was an easy switch and its a way better fit. All xpel and has been great since.

Everyone is dead on, get them to redo with proper length sheet.

Which PPF shop did you go with? I thought Xpel had released F90 precut for awhile...

Guy local to GTA. He made the mistake but was upfront about it and made up for it and then some (discounted getting the leather coated inside). End result looks good and clean.
If anyone around GTA needs info on the who/where PM me

UPDATE
I gave the shop another chance to make it right and I am not satisfied at all. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. The quality, or lack thereof, is AWFUL. Look at the pictures and you tell me if this is acceptable. In addition to the peeling and bubbles, the cutting looks really bad around the edges. They keep telling me there is no precut option and they had to do it by hand but I told them I disagree. This is the best shop in the Nashville area and just see the quality of work drop like this from what I have seen previously is just hard to watch. They are being really cool about it and will be refunding me my money so at least I am not out the $$ in addition to the time and frustration.

Thanks. I’m getting my money back Monday and will have them remove it as well. I’ve never heard of Area 44, at least in my area.
