choices for photo and video

so I'm creating a poll, but please chime in , in as much details as possible

so I'm old school, I don't have an iphone, ipad or 'droid (ok I do have a 'droid) but I have an old Olympus digital camera and a panasonic cam corder

so here, is the "question"

do I upgrade and get

1> dedicated camera for pics
2> dedicated "camcorder" for video
3> all in one

So I youtube a lot, so, looking at that "mainly" for the camcorder, on my camcorder , I can take stills, but the quality sucks and my cheapo 'droid phone takes even worse pics and video

suggestions on products, have a 7 year old so don't wanna feel like I'm depriving her of the necessities of life just cos daddy wants to buy a camera

Wait for the camera video reviews on the upcoming iPhones in September ‘18. Smart phones take very sharp pictures - the video on my iPhone X is extremely good.

Buy a go pro. The previous gen hero 5 models are cheap now. Video quality is top notch.

the new Samsung Note 9 will have a badass camera, you should go play with it at the store.

I'm with R3dliner. GoPro for the win! Up to 4K resolution, slow-mo options, view angle options, captures stills, small form factor, inexpensive and a wide range of accessories. If video is your top priority, you'd have to spend thousands and thousands of dollars to best a GoPro.

If its really necessary to upgrade then a dedicated system for each is the best way to go in my opinion. Keep in mind its not always the the equipment that needs upgrading. Its our skill set. We always need to refine it.

hi guy's thanks for all the replies,

a while ago, a guy who is a real geek, said the same,go dedicated.

I was looking at the go-pro, especially on some of my video's, it's usually,
a good thing to get a handsfree, which I think with the go-pro, you can get an adaptor

TBH, both my camera and video, works fine, though, the camera takes a while between pictures to set.

Also, you very rarely see anyone pulling out a "compact" camera to take pictures,
was also looking at a cannon DSLR an EOS, again price point.

but all your points are valid and the voting seems well spread (for confusion LOL)

it's all about your budget and the type of stuff you will be capturing. For best result, always go dedicated. However, camera gear adds up very quickly and a lot can be accomplished by learning how to use your equipment properly and in post.

I had a really nice Sony DSLR that my daughter “took” from me. I was fine with that since it was 5 years old and was wanting to upgrade. It’s difficult when you invest in lenses etc.

I decided to try out the Moment lenses that attach to your phone and while they are not DSLR quality, they are amazingly good. You can also attach filters which helps enhance things too. I liked them enough to order their kickstarter anamorphic lens which I should receive in the next week or two. I use their fisheye and and the wide lenses the most.

They also have a moment app that gives you full manual control.
