I live for the day that I see a vanity plate that says "NOT VAIN".

The anti-vanity plates are all already out there. The CSTUDNT type badges. Or DROPOUT on expensive rides. It's a different kind of vanity.

Those aren't anti-vanity. Those, I would argue, are even more about being vain.

I should have air quoted "anti-vanity".

It's the same syndrome: extroverted behavior for the most eyes possible. Flashy this flashy that... can't blame them too much. I think everyone would like some acknowledgment that they matter once and awhile. Some people deal with it differently.

If I had raced the mustang (hypothetically), which was clearly not modded, because she took the same exit I did and ended up at the same red light as me, on a very deserted stretch of frontage road, I would have put the car in every sport mode, turned off the traction control, and floored it.
