Back to back ride alongs in a Hellcat and ZL1

Went to the Barrett Jackson auto auction at the Mohegan Sun Casino in CT yesterday. Ford, Chevy, and Dodge were offering thrill rides. Dodge had Charger and Challenger Hellcats. Chevy had ZL1 1LE Camaros. I rode in the Hellcat first and then the ZL1. OMG!

The Hellcat was more fun because it's so loose and sloppy. The driver nailed it from a rolling start where he turned onto the 1/8 mile straight. He had to feather the throttle or it would have whipped right around. It was still spinning the tires at least half way down the straight. The ZL1, in comparison, gripped hard from the beginning and there was very little wheelspin at all despite 650 horsepower. Chevy took in-car video of all the rides. Here's mine, all 15 seconds of it:

I was at gold rush rally fan event right next door! Stopped by to see the thrill rides, looked like tons of fun. Hellcats definitely looked like they were having the most fun, but LZ1 looked the best

I really don't understand why they tire the Hellcat the way they do from the factory.

i can feel a poll coming on...

1. Chrysler are too cheap to fit proper sticky tyres
2. They want to appeal to guys that love to smoke tyres
3. It allows people to upgrade tyres to whatever they like - appeals to the mod bug in all of us.
4. It's just more fun

Most factory tires are not good enough for most high performance cars.

The ZL1 1LE is a road course monster. Hellcat is a straight line monster. Apples to oranges. I was really disappointed when I could not get comfy in the 6th gen SS no matter what I did. That took the ZL1 off my list. Plus GM lease pricing on the ZL1 = LOL. With the pricing on the Hellcat, it's the best bargain out there right now. Cannot be beat.

I'm glad they didn't put some tire on it that will wear out in 2k miles. Tires are not cheap. Most of them are street cars. I'm going to run the stock Pirellis till they are done then put some A/S street tires on. I will pick up a spare rear set for drag radials & another full set of rims for the snow tires sitting in my basement. Yep, I'm going to DD it once the Jetta sells.
