If your preferences on the computer are to NOT SHOW HIDDEN FILES/FOLDERS as I mentiond above. It will not show up in a file search. PS to all the other posters. Password protecting it doesn't do crap if it is not encrypted. Mostly for people actually trying to get at something they know you have though.

^^^ +1. secu-keeper pretty decent. There are a few others like it on the market, but they all pretty much do the same thing. If someone REALLY, REALLY, REALLY wanted to get into those files, it could be done, but again, you are not hiding some crazy top-secret information that you need to keep under serious protection. Something like Secu-keeper (or others like it) should give you plenty of password protection and are really easy to use!

*Assuming you are running NTFS you could tar (zip, rar, whatever) up your directory, password protect it with AES 256 bit encryption (not the zip native crap) using a strong password and then use ADS (alternate data streams) to hide your file from the kernel. We use this to hide rootkits all the time. Here is a quick primer should you decide to go down this path.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...utorial25.html Then you need to securely wipe that directory using a progam like "sdelete" which is part of the system internals suite. That will wipe the directory and make a DOD wipe of the directory and subdirectories to make evidence gathering next to impossible without an electron microscope (which the FBI rarely does unless you're a terrorist) BTW you're not a terrorist or anything are you? Because if you were iI'd feel really bad about showing you how to hide crap. Or........................... You could just use one of the fine suggestions above Oh yeah, and truecrypt is good too... |
