Thoughts on the Kia Niro?
Has anyone taken a look in to these yet? My wife's CR-V is coming off lease soon and she is almost hellbent on getting the Niro. 51 MPG is great, but I'm curious if there are any pitfalls to be aware of (besides lack of AWD)?
The other alternative right now for her is the RAV-4 Hybrid, which can't compete on the MPG side (35ish), but of course comes with AWD and is bigger. Thanks

The Niro is a great car.
There will be a 100% electric version coming very soon. That is the one I'd buy my wife. No reason to pay for gas can charge at night. http://www.greencarreports.com/news/...-says-kia-exec |

My big hesitation here is that the current version is not a PHEV. I would wait for the PHEV that was just recently unveiled in Geneva. As mentioned by the poster above, there is also the full electric version reportedly coming at some point, but the compromises with that drive type are well known and perhaps not for everyone right now. I like the PHEV solution as the sweet spot for assisted ICE drivetrains in general.

Been driving Electric for 4 years, not a compromise from the way I see it.
The New Niro should be available in 3 formulas like the Ioniq... Hybrid, Plugin Hybrid, and 100% Electric. First to offer such a choice. Buying gas is a huge compromise !! Quote:

My sister recently bought a Niro and loves it. She had been waiting for them to come in stock in her area and bought one as soon as it was available.

If she's all set on the Niro your life will be easier if you don't try to talk her out of it.
This article says the Niro plug-in will be available in Europe this fall but no word on USA. See if she wants to wait for the plug-in, and if so you could look into extending her CR-V lease until then. I know Honda does extend leases to some extent. Otherwise if she's cool with the non plug-in and thinks fwd is fine then go for the regular Niro. |
