New car dilemma £17000 budget
Hi
I am looking to purchase a new car in the next 2 weeks and I'm wanting a little bit of advice to decide what car to go for next. To give you a little bit of background I currently drive a 56 plate e92 335d which is remapped to 350bhp and 550lbft of torque, I have upgraded eibach springs and bilstein shock absorbers so the handling is very good. The issue I'm facing is that I have had diesel cars for the last 6 years and miss having a petrol car even though the mid range torque is good on the diesels. I will be using the new car as a daily driver and will do about 16000 miles per year, mainly motorway miles. The requirements I need are below Car no older than a 2008 plate Less than 70000 miles on the clock Need to achieve around 25mpg on motorway journeys Needs to be as fast if not faster than my 335d, I will be looking to remap the car I get so as long as it is similar performance after a remap i don't mind. I have narrowed it down to the below cars but I welcome any other options people may have. Audi s5 3.0t - can upgrade supercharge pulley and remap to over 400 bhp, probably a 2010 plate. Golf r mk 7 - remap to around 360bhp 4wd, 2014 plate is possible with some negotiations. E92 m3 - high tax and only could get a 2008 plate with 60-70k on the clock but heard they are great fun. I did want a ttrs or a c63 amg but these are a couple of thousand out of my price range. Anyone had any dealings with these cars who could offer and advice, don't mind if it's a coupe or convertible either. Thanks |

US MPG or UK MPG? (The TS is located in the UK I think)

Why not an e9x 335i ?
You can get 25mpg in a N54/N55.

The mpg isn't the main factor as I can use my partners corsa diesel whenever I hope on longer journeys but the better mph would have just been an added bonus.
I considered a 335i before I bought the 335d 2 years ago and even though they have massive scope for tuning I wouldn't see it as an upgrade from my current car if that makes sense. Anyone had any experience with the 3.0t s5? |

Golf R mk7 was a load of fun for me, but the size of the back seat was a bit of a killer for me on that car... not big enough to be usable for a lot of people here (the US). Great gas mileage for a non-diesel (I saw 30+ on motorway style driving, 20+ in town), good tuning options on it, etc. I also loved folding the back seats down and using it as a hauler from time to time (can't fit 16 bags of mulch in the f80). I certainly recommend it... only got rid of it because it overlapped to much with other household cars when I bought the f80. It was like an insane go-kart though. Total blast to own with a real practical side.
Haven't owned other two... |

Isnt an e89 z4 35i (available in manual!) or 35is (DCT) an option?
foldable hardtop cabriolet, excellent for daily use if space/4seats isnt needed. Lots of comfort for a convertable. Very tuneable because n54 , pretty good chassis (sadly no LSD and a bit heavy for track) Or maybe an e82 135i (1 coupe)? acquired taste but fairly exclusive/rare z4m might also be in your range but thats maybe not the best daily driver. (but if you take the coupe you'll have an appreciating classic for sure)
