2003 540i/M package/6 speed priced too high?
93,500 miles and is black on black. The car has all the options, except GPS, available for that year including Winter package and M-package. Rear tires have about 3,000 miles but the front will need to be replaced. Michelin Pilot Super Sport.
2nd owner. All the maintenance records available since the 1st owner. All maintenance is up to date. Clutch replaced about 10.000 miles ago and brakes about 2.000 miles. A/C ice cold. Listed for $15,000 but was quickly talked down to $12,500. Even that seems too high because it has so many miles, but I know 6 speeds are more in demand. I'm thinking of submitting my best and final offer at $10,500. What does everyone else think? Would be my daily, but my commute is only 10 miles round trip. |

If it's immaculate with nothing else needed to be done and no leaks with a clean carfax, I wouldn't pay more than $10K. Heck, $10K is retail for a dealer. Private party is more like $8K but I would gladly pay more for a clean car that is well maintained and no accidents.

My 2000 e39 540i Sport had 284,000 miles when I let it go. It was the greatest car I have ever owned but spouse insisted on something newer. It took a v-8 M3 to even come close.
I would say don't let the mileage bother you, just plan (and budget) on replacing components as they wear out. Find a local BMW specialist to help stay out in front of failures.

Based on my recent 5 series search, that's a ripoff price, shouldn't go for more than $5 - 7k even in the SF Bay area. Just said goodby to the E39's and bought an E60 530 6 speed for $6k in prime condition at 100k miles, with dynamic swaybars and active steering. After many miles in an E39 525iT, my current experiences in an E60 makes me think that anyone who spends big for an E39 is nuts. The E60 with 6 speed manual is way undervalued for the amazing car that you get for your money vs both E39 and E9x.
