MLB Statcast - acccuracy?
Aaron Hicks makes a 105mph throw from left field reads the headline. A new record. I'm thinking this is hard to believe so I did the math.
105 mph is 154 feet per second. The throw took 2.4 seconds. That means he had to have been up against the left field fence when he released the ball. He wasn't. He was mid field at most when he released the ball. That makes this a high 90s MPH throw at best. Great play? Hell yes. 105 MPH? Hell no. MLB Statcast failed on this very easy to calculate event. Does it matter? No. Its just when MLB is touting Statcast and they are claiming records are being set, it would be nice were a little more accurate. http://www.si.com/mlb/2016/04/20/aar...d-record-video |
