I have a MBP and I use the Microsoft Office 2004, there is a new version out for 2008. You have to get the Mac version though

Get the "Microsoft Office: Mac" CD from somebody you know, if anyone has it.
Or just download the program. No need to run bootcamp or anything. The 04 version runs perfectly on the new program too. Matt |

Microsoft Office Student and Teacher Edition (Same as the regular edition for $200 cheaper) is available in the 2004 edition. 2008 is coming out in 6 days so wait haha
And yes, the 2004 will work on the Intel processors, it will just be slower because the system needs to use Rosetta to recode it. Office 2008 will be Universal, meaning it will work with both PowerPC and Intel chipsets. The only reason you will want VMWare Fusion or Parallels is if you want to run the Windows version of Office.

iWork is great for creative things. No software makes charts of templates like iWork does. However I find the simplest things like word count and such don't work like you want them to. So I've resorted to using Word for my word processind documents.

Inspector/Paper(Left-most button)/Info and Word Count should be right there. It's been accurate every time I've used it?

When I first made the switch to Mac this past summer, I was considering purchasing MS Office for Mac until I found out that it was a 2004 version. I used the trial software, but ended up just using my Windows version of MS Office through VMware Fusion.
Ultimately, I purchased iWork and have been VERY impressed. I no longer feel the need to use MS Office. I keep it installed, just to confirm compatibility with exported documents. I will probably save my money and not purchase MS Office 2008 for Mac when it's released. However, if you use a lot of advanced features in MS Office, it may be a reasonable investment.

If you really need Mac Office 2004 now, you can get it because there is a free upgrade to 2008.
Also, if you work for a company that has site licenses with Microsoft, you may qualify for the Home User Program, better known as HUP. This will allow you to obtain a licensed version of Office for the PC, Visio, or Mac Office for $19.95. YES, $19.95... But if you leave your company, you "technically" need to remove it LOL...
