Should off-topic posts count toward post count?

Should the moderators change it so that posts in off-topic forums don't count toward post count? Other forums often set things up this way, and it greatly reduces useless and/or meaningless posts.

Just curious, would the search engine still find those posts when searching by UserID?

It should. Usually there is a simple setting for each forum that lets the administrator designate whether posts in the forum count toward post counts. It doesn't affect the other functions of the forums.

off-topic posts are usually a waste, and they shouldn't count towards anything.

Yeah I'm also kind of worried about that. I can't really decide yet.

I think it's a good idea also. My response to vlad's worry is that if it's off topic and it's in the main section it will be easy to see and delete/move. I really don't see that happening that much, but I may be wrong. Who can predict what people will do.

i like it, but like some mebers im worried about the traffic that might be caused in the main section.

I wish there was a better way to show who actually contributes (even if it happens to be off-topic) interesting material, that wasn't quantified.

I mean, if enough people post "lol, rofl, j/k" blah blah blah in one post after the next, it's no wonder they've hit 1000 posts in no time.

What I mean is, I don't think the "number of posts" should be so important. I'd kind of like to see a contributor ranking. But then, you get into reputations where others have to vote, and that gets kind of goofy too.

I don't think I've got an easy solution. I'm undecided for now...

i tink i was on a forum before that had something similar to that sharp. other members rated members based on their contributions so next your name in conjunction with the post count there was also how many stars you have based upon a criteris set by other users.
