Will BMW use new gearbox on E92s next year?.. (2008 5 series' transmission)

Anyone has an opinion about will BMW use new gearbox at E90s or E92s? I mean X5's and 5 series' new gear selector )

The concept's well thought out, but the construction is flimsy. If they implement it I hope they increase the sturdiness of it; felt too plasticky.

^ I cant help but disagree with that statement. When I was playing around with it, it felt extremely sturdy. Plasticky yes, but not flimsy at all.

I also felt it was a bit flimsy. Too plasticy as well. I was not impressed by that lever and sincerely hope that the M-DCT in the M3 has its own unique shifter. I also feel that the 5 series shifter pictured above is a bit too feminine, and the odd shape of it would stick out like a sore thumb in a 3-series.

I love the parking break. Sure I dont know how we are going to be able to pull the e-break and spin it around, but I just think its nice to clean up some space in the interior and lose the huge pull type lever.
The first car I saw that style e-brake was on the Audi A8 when it first came out in 2004ish.

New style gear lever has been replaced four times on my wife's X5 4.8, four different parts numbers as it was constantly being updated by BMW.
We had major issues with the car upon delivery, but thankfully after the forth replacement everything seems o.k. No more throwing itself into park after selecting drive or reverse.

Definitely takes a little getting used to. My 335i is stick, Excursion has column shift lever, so the X5 screws me up every time I drive it. A couple of times I have put it in reverse thinking it was park.

Despite my bitching I still think the new style gear lever is a step forward.

Too big a mid-cycle change for a car....and they have been having some troubles with it so I severely doubt you'll see it in the 3.
