Thumbs up slow-watches made in Switzerland... ?

Have you guys seen these one hand watches? At first I thought it was kind of silly, but the more I look at them, the more I like the idea.

Sorry but their product website is all in German. But the home page is in English.

You typically won't know the exact time, but can get fairly close.

Cool concept, but I don't love the case design. There was a non-mechanical watch with an interesting take on the 24 hour dial called the Yes World Watch.

It was a multi-function watch: I believe it even had a compass function. Could be wrong. Dunno if they're still around.

Meistersinger has been doing it for a long time and they're mechanical instead of quartz:

So when I saw the thread title, I thought you were referring to Martin Braun's slow runner. (http://www.hodinkee.com/blog/introdu...-beats-at-1-hz)

The watch you did in fact picture is interesting, but I would be lying if I said I have any desire for one. I think the concept is novel. There are other one-had watches around and I don't like any of them.

I don't like one-handers because I have yet to find one that's easy to read and the Slow brand's watch is no exception. Moreover, I don't care at all for the fact that to tell when it's 2:07, for example, one needs to have very good vision.

I like all sorts of watches: cheap, pricey, quartz, mechanical, serious and whimsical. I can take many things in a watch; I'm not a snob about them at all, but what I cannot take is one that makes me look hard to tell the damn time of day.

All the best.

Neat watch. But seems like you need one of these to be able to even read the time. Even the pictures that show you how to read the time are blown up.

I have a Meistersinger, black face with a single white hand. Every tick on the dial is 5 minutes, so I can get pretty close if it really matters exactly what time it is. I like the single-hand watch. Very simple concept. They even make a single-hand watch with a 6-hour rotation -- the 12 hour convention is just that, there's no reason you can't live with 6. It's interesting anyhow. Automatic winding.

I got the idea because the old cathedral in the town in Germany where I studied for a year just had a single hand on the clock. It was the late middle ages, WHO CARES what time it is? My life requires a bit more precision than that, but it's true that there are precise clocks all around me all day, there's no reason my watch needs to be super precise.
