Wait, that's the display? That is pretty cool how they have it up on a lift. Looks like it's ready to be wrenched on.

Yup, that is the display! It's the first thing you see when you walk into the BMW Museum's lobby.

This.

The Z8 prototype I saw at the NYIAS back in the late 90s was badged the Z07.

^^that's cool. I never heard of that concept before. I had to Google these images. You can really see how close this concept was to the Z8 production car. And how both stay true to the lines of the 507.

Traveled a bit further down memory lane: It was the 1998 NYIAS and I drove there with my buddy in his maroon 1990 300ZX with the T-tops open. Gorgeous day. The Z07 on display was a convertible. I found a few pics from the 1998 NYIAS of the exact car:

I should have put a disclaimer - I didn't take the pictures but someone else who attended the show did and posted them to a 1998 caliber website. I'm actually amazed by how few pictures showed up in the google search. It's amazing what cell phone cameras have done to the world.

I wonder what John Surtess 507 is worth....?

Owned from new by the only person to win the World Championship on two wheels and four wheels, bought for him new as a present from Count Agusta for winning the 1956 World 500cc Championship for MV Agusta.

Seeing this car at Goodwood and it's colour scheme gave me the inspiration for ordering my 135 in Bluewater/Coral Red

We can safely say: millions (they've already sold for that). A single-owner 507 is at its peak right now.

Amazing story. Wonderful that they display it as a "barn find". Nicely done.
