The GC looks great, and I think it's on the same platform as the Mercedes ML, correct? I was leery about anything Italian, and about the handoff from Daimler, and Jeep quality - but sounds like you've had a good experience?

We paid Just under $50 and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. It's not really a "Jeep" when you consider the sum of its parts. The chassis is Mercedes ML/GL from when MB was part owner of Chrysler. The ZF 8 speed sport auto is German too. The engine is Italian.
It will tow as much as the Hemi V8 but gets over 30mpg on the highway out of a 3 liter diesel. It's even fun to drive which I didn't expect! The car is awesome in every way and compared to an ML or X5 it's great value for the money. Go look at one and drive it. |

last week, i looked at a 2012 honda Pilot(boring) and a 2011 MDX(most likely candidate). But the salesman sold the MDX we were negotiating on. So now I'm looking at a 2011 X5. I saw 2013 Jeep Cherokee last night that reall caught my eye. I think you can get those way under 40k.

I was going to recommend a 4Runner as well. My wife has an '04 with 84k miles that has been bulletproof so far. You can get a very nice 2013 Limited for under $40k. Maintenance is reasonable, 87 octane and there will always be a demand for good used ones.

If you're looking for off road capability, every day drive ability, and reliability (great resale value too)... look no further then 4Runner. My 2012 Trail Edition is great on and off road. It's the only SUV that doesn't compromise any of the criteria listed above.

I actually saw this on my local CL the other day. Emailed the owner and he said it was still available but I decided not to pursue it.

What about the Land Rover LR2? Its a little boxier, but in not a bad way, and has all of the comforts I think you are looking for.
We got one, also looked at the Evoque, but it was too pricey, the LR2 is a few grand cheaper. If you haven't considered it, take a look at one - maybe fits the bill. |
