The Economics of the Monaco Grand Prix

Pretty interesting read on all the money and numbers involved in this weekend's race.

It led me to go look up some real estate prices...

I found a 1400sqft condo on the water for 13million EUROS

Interesting article.

Did I miscalculate? According to the article, that stopping distance is something around 700-800 feet (roughly) feet to go from 185 mph to 0 in 4 seconds. It's amazing the drivers don't die immediately of a brain aneurysm.

( I assumed mu at 1.4, since mu of 1.1 at 60 mph yields 110 foot stopping distance, and that's what our cars can do, more or less on normal performance street tires.)

Formula one is as big as it gets
It's the pinnacle of motorsports
Formula one races are watched by more people than ANY sporting event
Except the football World Cup (soccer to you Americans) and the Olympics
Both of which are held every 4 years!
And Monaco is the best race of the season
Seeing the drivers run their cars lap after lap inches from the safety barriers is a sight to see
And let's not forget the King of Monaco
Ayrton Senna, who won the Monaco Gp 6 times!
