I hear Badger's available as a willing alternate, incase it doesn't work out... just sayin' that might be an option.

Today I visited our private family owned lagoon about 15 minutes from our house.. it was sunny today so I'm definitely going back down soon under better conditions to take some more pictures.. here's a 16 second exposure with a 10 stop filter.. and also a similar picture my dad took about 20 years ago: http://www.baakleen.com/matrashi.jpg

Thanks. I really wrestled with the decision on how to crop the picture. I tried to keep the composition in thirds, but the dark sky on the close crop was kind of boring, so I went with more water. If I took a wider view and showed more sky, I had to lose some of the thirds composition, but the picture looks more like it looked in real life.

No, that is in my parents hometown of Baakleen, Lebanon. I'm currently visiting over the summer.

The water is very clean and completely swimable but may take some getting used to because it is heavier than salt water. 5- 10 minutes in there and usually everyone is exhausted!

I much prefer this crop. It really emphasizes the drama in the sky.

Was playing around with the 135L yesterday. I made up this little DOF demo. Kind of hokey, but it clearly shows the changes as the aperture gets smaller. It would have worked better with less wind and a better variety of objects in and out of the in-focus area.

I did use a tripod, but it was *very* windy and I didn't have my shutter release, so there's a bit of camera movement.

A hair and follicle via my 55mm f/3.5 macro lens. Don't ask me why I decided to shoot it (morbid curiosity maybe?), but I think it illustrates the depth of field at f/3.5 very well.

Pretty damn impressed with the sharpness of my latest acquisition; a 105mm 2.8 macro.

Yep; that is a cropped version of a lens cap shot. Probably the best $300 i've ever spent; photog-wise.
