Long Drives and Rest Room Stops I95
I am planning a long drive south down Interstate I95
Can anyone report how the rest stops are during this social distancing due to COVID-19. I am wondering if I can expect long lines and big wait time to get into the bathrooms, etc... I have a feeling it could delay my drive by hours if there long wait times. Please let me know if anyone had any Recent Interstate I95 long distance experience with the rest stops in general, or anything I need to look out for. Thank you. |

I'd rather stop and use the side of the road than go into the rest stops.

From Ft. Pierce, FL to I-26 in SC, no lines or issues last Friday. Most, but not everyone wears a mask, and not all restrooms are created equally. Bring paper towels to dry your hands unless you want to stand in front of the fecal blowers to dry them and not a bad idea to bring some hand sanitizer along.
The state welcome centers are pretty good places to stop.

Rest stops and gas stations generally speaking in the USA are borderline 3rd world for the most part due to the old and crumbling infrastructure... only commentary that I can make is that it wasn't good before and it's still not good having driven I95 in FL a multiple of times since Covid started. Some care about masks and wear them but frankly in most smaller towns, there is 0 enforcement whatsoever.

The most important thing that I can say is to remember that there's a mandatory 14-day self-quarantine for anyone coming into the northeast after visiting most areas south of New Jersey. Plan accordingly if you intend to come back to NYC after your trip.....

I just came back to South FL last night. I-95 down all the way from Charleston area. Roads were a shit show because of Labor Day weekend traffic and general human stupidity. Multiple highway closures and saw some gnarly accidents.
Despite that, rest stops had people but no lines or waits. Honestly I don't think too many cars stop at rest stops, on the whole. There are a lot of morons who don't respect pandemic safeguards or just the welfare of their fellow humans, period. So you'll want to have lots of space to maneuver around these ass clowns. Thankfully I had no problems doing so |

I drive by the one in Port St Luice all the time. Seems about normal traffic and looks to be very open. Honestly I don't think most rest stops are that bad (pre-covid, haven't really been anywhere since). I have been inside many of the FL ones and they are fine. I mean it's a public restroom, not the ritz. Some are fancier with fast food places and what not inside... dunno what else you would expect. Outside of FL we are usually traveling with our own bathroom so... while the parking lot at most is nice enough... we don't have a need to go inside.

I have driven through 19 states during the pandemic, from the earliest days of lockdown easing until yesterday. No problems. Gasoline, restroom, coffee and food in plentiful supply with either no waiting or business as usual waits.
Most states east of the Mississippi but also a couple of western states. |

Black widows hanging 4 ft above me in Georgia, was terrifying. More terrifying than the glory holes in west Virginia.

Piss jugs. Gallon piss jugs and when they are full you just toss them out the window. Old trucker trick uncle Ray taught me. Word of advice, pick up some friends of the road why you are on it.
