Recommendations for a Watch Winder
I'm looking for a watch winder for my automatic. Are they all the same? Is one better than the other? I just need something simple for two watches. Thanks!

Jaeger Lecoultre on watch winders
"As a company we do not recommend the use of a watch winder. We do understand that many clients wish to use a winder. Therefore, we recommend that you put your watch on the winder on the lowest speed for two hours and then stop for two hours. It should be wound bidirectionally. This conservative schedule will ensure that the watch does not experience excessive wear on the barrel and automatic winding system." I post this in that it will help you find a proper winder |

I've never had an issue with a watch on a winder, and I keep all of them on a winder.

I've owned two Wolf winders and have been very happy with them. Depending on the model you go with there are a variety of rotation options (300 - 1200 TPD), directional settings (clockwise and counter-clockwise), and delayed start programming. The winders are relatively quiet, especially with the case closed.

a properly designed watch wont care if the rotor is spun 100 times or 1000 times, it should never strain the mainspring. at worst, you are looking at maybe having to have the watch serviced a couple years earlier. OP Wolf winders are everyone's go to and have proven reliable.

I have a few wolfs. It’s fine, but have chosen not to use it unless there is like a moon phase or some form of complication that needs it. Otherwise. I just wind it and do a quick date set when I wear it.
I like my watches in a larger display case. |

The downside to this approach is that things tend to dry out if not worn often enough to keep them going. Mechanical watches are like old people, best to keep them moving.

not an issue in most modern watches. people wear their watches everyday for years with no issue, a winder isnt going to cause anymore damage than that.

I was unsure about them and hadn't used one until recently got a moonphase and decided to go ahead and give them a shot. Its definitely not needed. From what I've read the newer lubricants arent gonna gum up which was an issue before but will eventually dry out requiring service so that's a wash but running all the time could theoretically cause more wear requiring service.

Girlfriend picked up a non-name winder on eBay for less than $100 to keep her automatic ticking since she doesn't wear it every day (probably 4 days out of 7). Has settings so you can have it alternate which way it spins and how long it spins for. Working well 8 mths in.

I'd read s/t about these imparting a magnetic charge, at least the cheaper ones. Any truth to that, or other concerns for the cheaper varieties (other than the cheapness, but I'm putting a Seiko in it, not a Rolex)?
