Canon lens rebates
I came across this in the newspaper today. Looks like Canon is offering some good rebates on their lenses and flashes.
With Nikon's much higher pricing on lenses like the 70-200 and 24-70, I'm thinking I should have gone with the Canon platform instead......

Haha last Friday I went to Glazer's and an employee told me about this secretly since people weren't supposed to know about it until today (it was already on the internet for weeks.) The 70-200mm f/4 non-IS is only like $560 now. Crazy!
Yeah, compare the 24-70mm models - around $800 difference, but I'm sure Nikon is much better built, but then again I doubt it's worth it. If you're thinking about switching to Canon, do it. I just sold all of my Nikon gear and switched to a Canon 5D2 + 24-70mm + 50mm f1.8. I'm so excited! |

sweet!
ive got the 5d2 and the 24-70 as well...its fantastic tho I have to say, im very partial to my 70-200 2.8 is l...its glorious as far as the canon 70-200 being lower quality vs the nikon...the canon 2.8 IS/L is currently ~1650 (without rebates) and the nikon is ~2100...so the difference is about 500...but the build quality is similar, and from what Ive read, the canon 70-200 is an incrementally better lens vs the nikon one...but incrementally nikon generally has better wide angle lenses, canon has better telephoto...this is a very general statement, and when I say better, its..very incrementally so it stuns me that the price is 500 different...but then again, the D700 costs more than the 5D2, and they perform very similarly, but the 5D2 has twice the resolution...so...oh wells nikon

Canon 5D Mk II - $2,700 24-70 F/2.8L - $1,110 Canon 50mm f/1.8 - $115 Subtotal - $3,925. Yeah, that's still double what I've got into the D300 setup. Even if I could get top dollar for my body and lens, I'd still have to come up with $2,000 to switch. That's not going to happen. The "savings" on the Canon glass over the Nikon glass would be eaten up by the depreciation of the existing equipment. So it is still a zero sum game.... Oh, and the Nikon D700 is cheaper than the Canon 5D MkII at Adorama by $300. And even with half the MPs, the D700 scores better on DxO Mark's Sensor score. I'm hoping this will push Nikon to respond, and then I can get some Nikon lens deals too!

switching brands is a pricey proposition once youve got some good glass in your hands. Once you start getting in the D90 (and canon equiv Xsi/40D) range, the quality of pics is getting very good...nice to see competition fueling good image quality and sensor upgrades now if only I had the dollars for a hasselblad.....drool

And I think going from a D300 to a 50D is moving a small step backwards, not an upgrade.

Thank you for the post! I need a 430 EX-II, and possibly an EF-S 10-22mm.

I hope Nikon doesn't do anything surprising, or else I'll regret the switch! |
