Question illegal to take pictures?

I was driving in a fairly empty parking lot today fairly quick until i parked and saw a rent-a-cop drive by in his golf cart and started taking pictures of my car and the license plate number, i knew he didnt just like the way it looked and i knew why he was doing it obviously because he thought i was driving fast or something but anyway i just got back in my car and drove off didnt really care but then i asked myself...is it illegal to take pictures of someones car? and second, if he decides to report me does he need some sort of proof that i was speeding?

Sure he can take the pics to the police and say you were speeding. However there is nothing that you could be cited for. Speeding is a civil infraction and must be viewed by an officer in their presence. If the speeding became criminal such as reckless driving then this may not apply. Note this is how law is in my state however.

yup
in my younger years I raced in a empty parking lot at 2am and someone called the cops on us.
Cop came after we were done and tried to scare us but couldn't give us a ticket because he hadn't seen anything and we didn't admit to it.

The reason he did that was probably the same reason some people take pictures of the car parked next to them in case something happens. Pressing delete on the camera is much much easier than saying 'I wish I remember the license plate number".

I don't think it's illegal at all. People do it all the time when they see a nice car parked or on the road.

I seriously don't think he's going to do anything. If he does, it will be a weak case. Any car driving at 10MPH or higher will appear to be going fast when you're in a golf cart. And with your car being parked, you could've said that you were just getting in or something along the line.

This reminds me of another rent-a-cop on a power trip I ran into. There's a local mall that is very well lit and I used to go up there to take pix at late night. The first time, the security guard was very cool, and was into cars too. The 2nd time, the rent-a-cop asked us for a permit to shoot in a public area and asked us for our driver license. LOL.

It's not illegal, we have a Constitution that protects many rights.

Like the other guy said, I would have started taking pictures of him.

I got chased by 2 rent-a-cops by a golf cart after I was doing donuts in a '99 Z28 in a empty parking lot...as I sped away outta there, one of them was waving what looks like a baton while they were getting smaller in my rearview mirror...laughed for most of the day after that

Run-on sentences should be illegal.
