We are in NC now but our primary home is in Wellington. Inland east coast before storm even makes landfall on west coast so outer outer bands with tornados forming. Pics from my neighbor. First is another neighbor’s screen and the rest is our property. Power out for only 4 hours. We got lucky. Just some cleanup and a new mailbox, at least so far.

I truly hope anyone on the west coast in its direct path has left already.

Oh good grief - that's just insane.
I'm just a couple of hours north.
Been under a tornado watch since last night, and now just got upgraded to a warning.

Yup that is one of the cells that came through here. Delray was also hit. We are due south of Wellington in Boca. Straight down 441 / SR7.

Hopefully any damage you endure is peripheral.

Thanks for the dishwasher tip - that was one of the smartest storm prep activities I've ever read.
I think outside the box a lot, and it works well too. Just make sure you don't run the dishwasher.

So far so good for us. Just clean up and minor stuff. But there will be some serious damage across the state this week.

Too late now if they didn’t already leave. I hope everyone in an evacuation zone left already.

Stay safe all! I keep seeing peoples posts on other social medias and I pray it dies down before it comes ashore. It is borderline a Cat 5 by a single digit.

Dishwashers are watertight, but designed to prevent egress and they don’t completely fill. Dishwashers are not waterproof. They aren’t rated or designed to be immersed in water and certainly won’t hold up to any amount of external water pressures. The drains are also an easy way for water to get in… I’d think harder before I put anything valuable in a dishwasher.

My son experienced the hurricane that went through Houston some years ago. His neighborhood flooded. Guess what was floating? Refrigerators. Not saying they were 100% water-tight, but they did float.

Yeah, I could see that. I still wouldn’t trust it, but probably more than a dishwasher.

If it starts flooding is it going to be like open season for gators?

Thing with Florida is that they have dangerous wildlife just waiting. Gaters, boa constrictors, etc.

Back home in OZ if it floods you need to watch for snakes, nothing like being knee high in Taipans that are lost and scared and a bit bitey.

Katrina was as bad as it was much in part because much of NOLA lies below sea level and the surge was immense.

I think he's mad cause everyone shits on CA.

I don't get the gator thing... I've lived in FL most of my life and I don't recall every just coming up on a gator. Never encountered a gator walking down the street or in my yard or in my hot tub. The only gators I've seen are because I specifically went looking for them. Maybe if you're house backs up to the everglades or something.

Well I believe you do have a valid point. I know it keeps water in and I assumed it would keep it out also. I guess I've been lucky up to now.

Thanks for shedding some light on my outside the box thinking.
