Have you experienced BMW prejudism?
Mine was when the express lane was completely stopped (not moving for 30+ minutes), and EVERYBODY was crossing over to the local lanes through the median.
I was in a line of about 30 cars, and I saw the cop down the highway sitting there. When I pulled out he came right behind me, pulled me over, and gave me a two point ticket. I asked him why he let about 30 other cars go and singled me out. He laughed and walked away. |

I do notice that I get A LOT more people speeding up to cut me off when I signal to go into an adjacent lane much much more often when I'm in my F80 than when I'm in my i3 or my SUV.

Agreed. I’m constantly getting cut off or blocked from switching lanes. It would rarely happen in my chevy surburban nor my Chrysler 300.

Yea I have plenty of people in NJ try to pick fights with me on the highway for no apparent reason, I'll be on the center lane going with the flow of traffic which is generally about the speed limit or not moving at all because it NJ and have people pass a dozen car all with sisufficent gaps and try to cut in front of me with no signal. My sister states people just target the expensive car expecting them more likely to relent.
As for the police I never been bother with my BMW, my 85 Monte Carlo SS and Mustang draw a ton more attention from the Police Force. Edit I do recall one incident with my BMW where a Focus ST try to illegally pass me from the parking lanes at a traffic light. Unfortunately for him I had more power and prevented him, a cop pulled out and I pulled to the shoulder while the Focus ST speeded away and the cop said "do you always drive like that" I said I was preventing him from illegally passing me "Cop said If I let him he would have pulled him over" I told him what preventing him from pulling the other vehicle over who just ignore a police siren and speeding off going 30miles above the speed limit in a commercial zone. Cop became quite and left. Last edited by NormanConquest; 10-11-2018 at 12:57 AM.. |

The vast majority of people do not care AT ALL what you drive.
If someone really thinks they are being targeted for the car they drive...there are definitely other issues at play.

There are many many people who sincerely don't care what you drive, BUT there are those who want to make a statement that they don't care what you drive by passive aggressively and coincidentally deciding that they want to go faster RIGHT WHEN I HIT MY TURN SIGNAL. It's a noticeable and measurable phenomena especially here in Los Angeles.

I will say that new model cars get more negative attention than older model cars.

Has nothing to do with the car you drive most* of the time. Nobody cares. Only people into cars or into themselves think they do... *i say "most" because I concede there is the occasional person in a modified car whose aim it is to race, annoy, or bait another performance car

I don't think thread was to say if you drive a BMW you automatically are labelled as BMW driver.
This is very noticeable in NJ. Why do I have to floor it in 4th gear at highway speeds sometimes to pass a rando car....Cars are a lot faster nowadays, but damn people are legit flooring it for reasons beyond me. Hey I drive like a dick sometimes, but all I will do is mentally scare you, there will be no cutting off. The m3 just slices on the highway. nevertheless its these types of assholes who will cut you off, but there shit to slow and you gotta brake. Real life lesson here which I wish I followed more::::Just zone the fuck out on congested roads and moderate traffic. People stay doing dumb ass shit and it drains too much of my emotional health throughout the day. I find this behavior is increased in everyone if they are commuting to and from work. |

I find that people try to mess with me all the time. The girlfriend notices it too. In the small town I live I constantly hear "that *insert negative comment* in the BMW." We constantly get dirty looks or people that comment "nice car." I guess it goes both ways depending on others level of hate.
I try to be respectful of other drivers around me and am always aware of my surroundings. I do notice that I have a lot more people try to race me in my 335i than previous cars I've owned. |

I asked the cop why he pulled me over when the suvs in front of me were driving faster then me. he simply said "because i decided to pull you over" and walked away to issue me ticket. Cops are people with their own bias and prejudices, even though people like to pretend their arent. Moral of the story, is cops will pull over who ever they want, even if their are other people doing worst things then you in front of him. |

Could it be your heightened perception is more the culprit than other people? Not asking this in a condescending way but more in a realistic way...

Had a couple minor incidents on the road here and there where people were just rude, but the one that pops off in my head right now is not even related to driving.
It was a couple months after I got separated. Got lonely away from home for work and decided to go on a dating site . This nice girl contacts me, we were chatting for a couple weeks then decided to meet. It was cute and kinky at the same time. I invited her over for a nice lobster meal at home; cooked by yours truly. When she got out of her vehicule, she was all smiles but her smile went down the second she saw my car. And on a couple occasions, while sitting on the deck (with eye contact on the car), she was mentionning things like "priorities" and "wanting to travel and enjoy life"; while eyeballing the car. It wasnt even subtle. But she still decided to stay overnight. Lobster was awesome, so was the wine, sex was great, so I thought we had something going there. She ghosted me before I woke up the next morning. That was the only time I saw her. On the next day she was rambling about her priorities again... Never heard from her after that. So I cant say I ever got a girl in my bed because of my car, but I definitely lost one. She was driving a caravan. We were definitely not made one for the other
