I am also confused... How exactly did it redline when you were slowing down?
Sure, when I hit the brakes the car will slow down and start to downshift. Unless I slam the gas again though, it won't redline. Also, even if you press the gas past the depression point, you will still need to downshift in order to get the best possible gear, then it will redline pretty quickly. Still, none of this involves you braking. I am not seeing how what you are describing is possible.
Either way, it's not a big deal, the car will be fine.
