To be honest, you really don't need much to get started IMO. At the end of the day, as long as you have a space to store the cars and work on them efficiently, then that's more than good enough.
I personally think it's really easy to get carried away with the Garage Journal type builds (even though I just spent a good 3 days reading a 100 page thread
