The biggest move I made was giving up tube amps - modelers (especially Fractal) are just on the money now, you would never tell the difference in a mix or recorded situation. I've even A/B'd live / in-the-room against my Friedman Smallbox playing my FM3 thru the loop of the Smallbox and it is just absolutely spot on in sound and feel. My current noodling rig is:
