Have to agree, everyone of us was 17 and we all had lots of near misses and some collisions, some of us didn't make it. Driving is a serious business and the next 3-4 years will be the most important for you.
Driver training courses, track courses, skid schools, speed is intoxicating, literately.
Take some of the money you are going to spend on your fun car and buy an old beater, make all your mistakes in it.

That's probably not what you want to hear but it has to be said.
