As some of the others said, both the 3D's and LM25's are performance winter tires. Meaning they're going to do very well in dry cold conditions and light to moderate snow. Clearance aside, I have found in snowfalls beyond 10cm the car struggles in many situations. Patience in a virtue.. as is a light foot.

For winter traction, it's the tread width that matters: 255 is not as effective as 225 or 215.

The other major advantage for 17" rims vs. 18" is the added rubber sidewall protection against pothole damage.
