For me, yes. I own it. Sure, I have to pay property taxes on it every year (just like my cars), but I understand why the property taxes are there. As "dmatre" noted, I can generally do what I want with my home and I can sell it. So yes, it is an asset, thus my property.
Is your argument that everyone should just carry loans because you're of the opinion that you really don't the home?
