I love how people have the audacity to criticize Jos or feel "sorry" for Max's childhood. I'm sure Max wishes he was a basement dwelling loser who never succeeded at anything in life like those folks too.

It's well-documented that Jos ain't no saint: hot temper, messy divorce, court orders. But Max maintained a good relationship with both his parents.
In an interview Max told the story about Jos briefly abandoning him (karting kid) at a fuel station somewhere in Europe because he considered that Max had not performed as wished. The idea of "we're on the same team" and "be comitted because all this costs lots of money".
But you can understand from many sources that Max never felt pushed to race against his will. He spent countless hours on karting circuits because he genuinely loves racing, rain or no rain.
