"You can't always get what you want": cuts both ways for McLaren and Ricciardo. But every man has its price: they found an arrangement. Likely the fact that Ricciardo got no #1/#2 race seat for 2023 (only reserve driver) will gnash teeth down at McLaren. A deal is a deal so McLaren will learn it the hard way. And Ricciardo is still 'inside the loop' for a possible come-back in 2024 (or even earlier if Perez would happen to get "Kvyat'ed" during the 2023 season if underperforming or new Monaco shunts).

Anyways, all teams will be more cautious with offering long-term contracts.
