I think that depends on what look you're going for. If you go into an old butcher shop, their marble is usually worn, has cuts in it and to me it looks beautiful, where another person might see it as old and dirty.
After 3 + years, ours shows no sign of wear, water marks or stains and I wish it would (curse you good water with no rust!). The marble in old baths that you see in Italy is what I really want, some rust stains and wear and stuff. I prefer things that are broken in but look well taken care of and clean (I think leather looks better with some wrinkles and wear in it, hate it when it's new, should have just gotten vinyl). Most people try to avoid that because if they ever want to sell their home, buyers are likely to favor new-looking over rust stains. So if you want the worn out look, great. But if OP is trying to avoid that and wants non-stained, non-cracked, glossy-looking surfaces, it will require some proper maintenance and care.
