It didn't get fucked, it fucked itself. The examples of poor leadership we got from that will be in our text books for a century.
Linus is a genius. It's epic that he decided to keep his work free to explore and to develop. In my geekier days I had a poster of his (well, I told everyone it was his) hand on my dorm wall.
