Max is an above average driver in a great car. If you have any doubt, look at his pole positions prior to this season vs this season. Prior to this season he only had 4 pole positions in his career. This season, alone, he's had 6 or 7. That is a very telling statistic.
Contrast this with Lewis in 2009. He had, what was rated by Autosport, the 6th fastest car on the grid. He achieved 4 pole positions and 2 wins in an absolute dog. That is more pole positions than Max had over his 5 year Red Bull Racing career.
And RIC beat him as well in their time at RB. In fact, Max's first win at RBR was managed because RB pitted Daniel, who was substantially ahead of Max, unnecessarily. This was done to GIVE Max the victory.
