For sure Ferrari had the better car, certainly the first 3/4 of the season, but as far as strategy, pit stop performance and stupid mistakes, MERC performed better than Ferrari (pretty much everyone did).
Ferrari as a team during race weekends performed aweful pretty much all year on multiple aspects, so in that regard they don't deserve to finish 2nd.
They are there because they have a good car.

With what Merc has got away with up to now on and off the track I would choose Ferrari every time even for their track inconsistencies to finish second in the constructors.
