They started in a place where they could be opportunistic in making improvements. They don't need to be in the discussion about Harper or Machado. Contrary to previous post, they were quite a bit better than everyone else before free agency started. Won division by 8 games and lost 3 games combined throughout playoffs to some very good teams.

I'm ok with no long term commitment to either Kelly or Kimbrel. Kelly had a great playoff run but has been up and down since arriving. I liked his personality and WS performance, but someone bid more so good for him. The bullpen will work itself out over the course of the season. If they start blowing games, they will go out and get a closer or make other improvements via trade unless they are really tanking, which seems unlikely.

As far as 2019 goes, there are no guarantees. I am expecting them to win a few less games but still have an excellent team. They have more questions post-2019 with younger players coming up on free agency.
