Actually, BMW's doing just fine.

All numbers are taken from respective Annual Reports:

2015 revenue:
BMW Group: 92 billion Euros
Daimler AG: 149 billion Euros

Global workforce (end of 2014):
BMW Group: 116,000
Daimler AG: 280,000

Net profit (2015):
BMW Group: 6.9 billion Euros
Daimler AG: 8.9 billion Euros

BMW is making 77 percent of the net profits of Daimler while bringing in a little more than 61 percent of the revenue of Daimler and with roughly 42 percent of the workforce of Daimler.

And: BMW Group is wholly owned by itself.

The sky is not falling. Economies of scale, yo.
