Sounds like the "self-demoted to the best of the rest" summary of the 2022 F1 season for Mercedes-AMG.

I expect Toto Wolff to admit someday in a throwback documentary to be aired years from now, that the 2022 F1 season was a disaster for his team. The Wolff king has lost his crown, and it hurts badly.

More in general, the whole porpoising issue was humbling for car manufacturers involved in F1: designs looked good on paper, in wind tunnels and during a zillion simulations ...until these were tested in the real world on a racetrack. Unlike other F1 teams, Mercedes-AMG failed to properly address the issue by tinkering with the car. As their armada of engineers apparently concluded that the issue is too hard to remedy on their design within acceptable limits for the driver and performance, they try to tinker with the rules to avoid being 'left behind' from competing at the front of the pack.
