So, people are all but forced to update to a newer phone to stay current with software and security. Especially when, for example, apps require a certain software version.
Overall there doesn't seem to be a significant difference between a Note 8 and Note 10. That's why people aren't rushing out to buy the newest phone because the "upgrades and new features" just aren't that significant to justify the expense.

iPhones aren't impervious to what you're describing and neither are Pads. I tried setting up Disney+ for the boy on my 2012 iPad 4 and it wouldn't support the app and I could no longer upgrade the software. My parent's iP6s are starting to become or are obsolete as well.
