I carry my camera with my quite often, but that's for just in the off chance i come across something cool, but to go out of my way to organize a shoot in this weather, I can't even hold the camera properly with my gloves on an you're going to get a lot of camera shake because i'll be shivering so badly
in spring/summer/fall, it's a different story....

and I totally agree. my dash said -4 this morning so I don't want to be outside for any longer than I have to be. However the easy alternative is shooting indoors and making sure the theme of the contests allows that to be possible for the winter month contests (sunsets or beaches themes would be kinda hard).
The bottom line is people will take the easy road to this stuff 99/100 times unless they are just big fans of shooting new stuff all the time.
