If you want to use BMW Connected Apps from your phone, such as M Laptimer or Pandora, your iPhone needs to be plugged into the car. Yes you can just stream audio over BT, but you don't get the ability to use some other functions of the iDrive and the tech package.

I strongly suggest using Apple cables to do this. I purchased a belkin lightning cable, and it didn't work. It would be nice to have a black cable in the car, as opposed to a white one.
